The objective of this project was to create a design proposal addressing a topic that is personally important and presents a design solution over the course of two semesters, with the help of an internal and external advisor.
Connect is a study space proposal renovation of the 11th floor of One City Hall, designed for post-secondary students. The 5,000 sq. ft. renovation provides a neutral study space for both individuals and groups, with the option of private and public areas. The proposal to renovate One City Hall with the use of biophilic design principles, the goal of this integration is to improve the mental health and overall wellbeing of staff and/or visitors. Biophilic design is centered around the human connection to nature, utilizing natural elements throughout the built environment with the intention of reducing stress, improving overall mood, enhancing creativity and increasing cognitive function. By implementing natural elements throughout the design, this proposal aims to reconfigure 5000 sq. ft. of the eleventh floor of One City Hall into a human centered and restorative space, with the intention of supporting psychological health and emotional wellbeing.
